Only Enrolled Agents, Attorneys and CPAs are authorized to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service. Only the Enrolled Agent is authorized by the federal government to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service on all administrative tax issues in all 50 U. S. states and U. S. territories. The Enrolled Agent is the preferred tax professional and must be tested to obtain certification and must take continuing professional education throughout each year to maintain this authorization. Enrolled Agents prepare tax returns, represent taxpayers on all administrative tax matters, provide counseling, tax planning and advice.
