Debt collectors CANNOT just act any way that they want when they are collecting a debt…even if it is one that you actually owe and just can’t pay right now.
But, some collectors don’t care. Some collectors will act however they want, no matter what they are allowed to do, because their job is to SCARE & INTIMIDATE you into paying them something.
Even when you may be talking to a collector who seems nice, they may still be telling you things that are not true, or, trying to trick you into doing something against your own interests. For example: ZOMBIE DEBT!!
Ooo…Sounds scary. What Zombie Debt is is debt that is past the Statute Of Limitations. What does that mean? That means you don’t have to pay the debt and the collector can’t sue you. But, by getting you to agree to make a “GOOD FAITH PAYMENT”, you may be bringing that Zombie Debt back to life, or, if nothing else, extending the time where the collector can keep bashing your credit report!!! They don’t tell you that though.
A debt collector is NEVER on your side. A debt collector can NEVER be trusted when you are their target!! NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!
IF A DEBT COLLECTOR DOESN’T FOLLOW THE RULES…YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO SUE THEM FOR BREAKING THE RULES!!!
IF A DEBT COLLECTOR IS HARASSING & ABUSIVE…YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO SUE THEM FOR BREAKING THE RULES!!!
IF A DEBT COLLECTOR CALLS YOUR EMPLOYER, FAMILY, FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS, OR ANYONE ELSE TRYING TO COLLECT ON YOU…YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO SUE THEM FOR BREAKING THE RULES!!!
THEY HAVE TO FOLLOW THE RULES!!

You have a right to dispute debts. Under the FDCPA, you must send a written dispute within 30 days of your receipt of the first “validation notice” from the debt collector. In order to preserve your rights, it’s important for you to keep good records of all of the collector/collection contacts.
Important Steps You Can Take To Help Your Case:
1.Save copies of all letters and notices from collection agencies.
2.Save all phone messages and voice mails- this is very important!
3.Make notes of your conversations with these bill collectors (who, what, where, when & why).
